However, the Red Devils were put off by the Toffees' whopping £80million valuation of the striker, according to The Sun.
Calvert-Lewin has scored 12 goals in 23 matches, including a first career hat-trick in Saturday's 5-2 win over West Brom, since Carlo Ancelotti's appointment at Everton last December.
With four goals in his opening two matches of the 2020/21 campaign, he is expected to be called up to Gareth Southgate's England squad for October's friendly with Wales and the Nations League double-header against Belgium and Denmark.
Ancelotti has even compared Calvert-Lewin to former prolific striker Filippo Inzaghi, who he coached at AC Milan.
The Everton boss said: "I had a fantastic striker in Inzaghi, who scored 300 goals and 210 with one touch.
"A striker has to be focused in the box and I think Calvert-Lewin understands really well because in the box he has speed, he jumps really high, he has power.
"Where he has improved more is there, in the box."
Ancelotti appears to be getting the best out of Calvert-Lewin, who joined Everton in a £1.5m deal from Sheffield United in 2016.
The 23-year-old's form was rewarded with a new five-year contract in March.

In stark contract, the Norway forward managed just one goal in 20 appearances for the Eagles following his £9m move from Midtjylland in 2018.
