Arsenal 'step up interest' in Thomas Partey and are 'confident' of striking deal with Atletico Madrid to sign midfield ace
The Atletico Madrid midfielder has been linked with a move to the Gunners and has a £43million release clause in his contract.
The Athletic claim the north London club are hopeful of negotiating a lower price for the Ghana International so they don't have to meet the full fee to sign him.
Partey is also said to be interested in a move to the Emirates in the summer and would be a solid acquisition by Gunners boss Mikel Arteta.
The 27-year-old has featured in all but three of Atletico Madrid's matches this season and played in their 2-2 draw with Barcelona on Tuesday.
Atleti are said to have offered Partey a new contract that would see him double his current £65,000-a-week wages and also increase his release clause to £87.2m.
Arsenal are likely to be in the market for a midfielder in the summer as reports suggest Arteta is running out of patience with Matteo Guendouzi.
The France midfielder could be sold in transfer window with recent rumours suggesting he could be used as part of a swap deal to bring Barca's Antoine Griezmann to the Emirates.
Arsenal have reportedly stepped up their interest in Thomas Partey and are confident of striking a deal.
