Arsenal are reportedly hoping to sign free agent Thiago Silva this year - with David Luiz being used as their secret weapon.

The 35-year-old will leave Paris Saint-Germain once their 2019/20 campaign has been completed.

Ligue 1 ended early due to the coronavirus pandemic, with PSG given the title, but the French club are still in the Champions League.

They are through to the last eight of the competition with it set to be completed in August.

The Brazil defender has spent eight years in the French capital, winning 21 trophies and being club captain.

Arsenal are said to be one of a number clubs trying to sign Silva with Everton and Tottenham also looking to bolster their defensive options.

Le10Sport claim Mikel Arteta has already been in contact with the player to discuss a potential move.

He is also said to have drafted in David Luiz, a former Brazil teammate of Silva's, to try and convince the veteran to move to Arsenal.

Luiz has recently signed a one-year contract extension at the Emirates despite question marks over his recent performances.

Silva has also previously expressed an interest in moving to the Premier League, so could be playing in England's top flight for the 2020/21 campaign.
