Man City vs Liverpool: Noel Gallagher
"I don't think Liverpool will get near us."

Noel Gallagher's bold prediction about how the Premier League title race would pan out arguably isn't wrong - the Reds are 23 points ahead of his beloved Manchester City…

The former Oasis star loves to revel in City's victories and he has a specialty in shooting down their rivals, mainly Liverpool, with his razor sharp wit.

He made a bold call in an interview that was published a couple of days before the 2019/20 season started, suggesting Pep Guardiola's side would romp to a third successive title.

Liverpool came so close to winning their first Premier League crown last season as they amassed 97 points but City clinched it with 98.

Gallagher used this opportunity to mock Jurgen Klopp's men for failing to win despite "having the best season of their life."

Back in August, he told Sky Sports: "I think we'll win four [trophies this season]. I can't see anybody getting anywhere near us next season.

"Liverpool had the greatest season in their entire life… and they still came second. It's too funny!

"I don't think Liverpool get near us. I don't think anybody does.

"I think as long as Guardiola stays, we'll win the league every year."

He was also asked if he felt Guardiola was a better manager than Klopp and he emphatically replied: "Yes! Klopp's too tall. He wears a baseball cap."

Suffice to say Gallagher underestimated Liverpool before the season started as they wrapped up a first league title in 30 years with seven games to spare.

Their first game since being confirmed champions is ironically at Man City on Thursday night, which will see the home side give the new champions a guard of honour.

In fairness to Gallagher, he's accepted Liverpool have been the superior side in the league and called on the Reds to be given the title when there were fears the season would have to be scrapped due to coronavirus.

Noel Gallagher backs Manchester City for European glory

And his other predictions about City this season are still on. They've won the Carabao Cup, they're in the FA Cup semi-finals and are in a good position to reach the Champions League quarter-finals.

Nevertheless, Liverpool fans won't let him forget about this in a hurry.

"I don't think Liverpool will get near us."
