'Sergio Ramos just doesn't give a damn' - Reaction as Real Madrid defender gets 26th career red card against Man City

Neil Warnock has joked Sergio Ramos clearly didn't fancy a trip to drizzly England after he was sent off in Real Madrid's 2-1 Champions League defeat to Manchester City.

There was a familiar scene at the Bernabeu as the Spanish centre-back was given his marching orders for a last-man challenge on Gabriel Jesus.

Remarkably, that was the Real Madrid captain’s first red card of the season, but it took his career total up to 26 - the third-most of any player in football history!

Ramos still a way to go to catch record holder Gerardo Bedoya, the former Colombia midfielder, who was dismissed a stunning 46 times in his career.

It means he will be suspended for the return trip to the Etihad Stadium, as Real look to overturn the 2-1 scoreline and progress into the quarter-finals.

The 33-year-old won't be bothered about that, though, believes veteran coach Warnock, who admitted he has managed several players with the same attitude – and one who even got suspended on purpose so he could have time off!

"He obviously didn't fancy coming over, did he," Warnock told Thursday's Sports Breakfast.

"I just think he's one of those players you get every now and again as a manager, where they don't give a damn, really.

"If they get a yellow card, a second booking, a red card, they're not really bothered. They don't care.

"You can't do owt about it, and he is a good player.

"I used to have one player and I noticed for a couple of years he used to have Christmas off, and it was only after I realised he'd always time his bookings to make sure he was suspended over Christmas.

"But I'm not naming any names, I can't do that!"

That story sounds familiar.

Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar has also been accused of feigning injury and getting suspended on purpose so he can travel back to Brazil for his sister's birthday and take part in the famous Rio Carnival in late February.

In fact, every year since 2014 he has been either unfit or suspended around this time of year.

This year Neymar posted on social media that he would NOT be going to Brazil for Carnival for the first time in six years, as he is fit to play.

However, he was then sent off in PSG's 4-3 win over Bordeaux on Sunday, which means he will now be free again to go back home.

This has predictably irked PSG fans, who have a love-hate relationship with the former Barcelona ace.

But Warnock says he'd let Neymar off if he was his manager.

"If I had Neymar, I'd let him do what he wanted," the former Cardiff City boss added.

"He could go off to his sister's birthday or what have you – I'd let him!"
