Pep Guardiola press conference: Man City boss on Raheem Sterling’s Real Madrid interview, UEFA ban and special praise for Jamie Vardy
Pep Guardiola says he ‘doesn’t have any doubts’ about the commitment of Manchester City’s players despite Raheem Sterling’s revealing interview about Real Madrid.

Sterling refused to rule out a move to the Bernabeu, claiming he is ‘open to challenges’ when speaking to Spanish publication AS.

He said: "How do I answer that one? Is the camera live or is it just taking pictures?

"No one knows what the future will hold. I am a player and I am always open to challenges but right now my challenge is at City and I'm really happy. I have a contract with City now and I have to respect this.

"Real Madrid are a fantastic club. When you see the white shirt you know exactly what the club stands for, it's massive."

There is huge speculation surrounding Sterling and the rest of the Man City players following UEFA’s decision to ban the club from competing in Europe for the next two seasons.

Guardiola has promised he will stay at Man City next season, provided he isn’t sacked, and poured cold water on any suggestions that Sterling or the other players are not committed to the club’s cause.

He said: “The players are free to talk about what they believe. I am completely sure about the commitment of our players.

The Man City boss was speaking to the media ahead of their Premier League trip to Leicester on Saturday.

Guardiola had special praise for Foxes frontman Jamie Vardy during the press conference. Here’s what he had to say about that, Sterling and more on Friday.

On Raheem Sterling’s interview about Real Madrid

“The players are free to talk about what they believe.

“I am completely sure about the commitment of our players.

“They have shown it for many, many years. No one knows what will happen, but right now the commitment for the last three months, every single game, I don't have any doubts.”

On Man City’s UEFA ban

“We cannot change what people think. I know how hard we work.

“I am so proud about how hard we've worked all these years.

“No one helped us outside, we did it day by day, game by game.

“This is not finished, it's not over, we appeal as a club and we see what happens.”

On Jamie Vardy and opponents Leicester

“He [Vardy] is one of the best I've ever seen.

“I said before the home game, how impressed I am [with Leicester].

“They have incredible organisation, good scouting, they know what they have to do. It's nice to see teams play like this.

“It's good for English football to have managers like this.”

On Sterling, David Silva and Leroy Sane’s fitness

“All of them are ok, not 100 percent some of them.

“Silva was smart to come off for the last minutes [against West Ham], Sterling is in the latter stage (of recovery). He's getting better.

“Sane is good as well, but of course he needs a little more time after six months out.”
