Roma vs Lazio Match Preview

leaguelane.com, 24 January 2020, 12:31

Fourth-placed Roma host red-hot Lazio, currently riding an eleven-game winning streak, at the Stadio Olimpico this weekend.

Roma vs Lazio: Head-to-head (h2h)

Overall Stats (189 games): Roma 71 Wins, Lazio 53 Wins, 65 Draws.

Both teams have scored in five of the last seven head-to-head meetings.

Three goals or more have been scored in five of their last seven outings.

The Giallorossi have won four of the last five H2H duels as ‘hosts’.

The two sides played out an entertaining 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture.

Roma vs Lazio: Match Preview

The Giallorossi got their rebound win against Genoa at the Luigi Ferraris (3-1) after two consecutive league defeats against Torino (0-2) and Juventus (1-2) and moved into top four as Atalanta dropped points vs struggling SPAL.

They failed to make it count in the Coppa Italia, though, as they suffered 1-3 loss at the Allianz Stadium. They head into Derby Della Capitale having won three of their last five league outings and with rather long injury list as four midfielders are out of the picture.

Rome have earned seventeen points from their ten home games this season, averaging 1.90 goals scored per match and allowing 1.50 in return. They have lost two home games on the trot.

Lazio’s impressive Serie A form continued as they destroyed Sampdoria 5-1 to extend their winning streak in the league to eleven matches and close the gap on second-placed Inter Milan to two points.

Ciro Immobile was, surprise surprise, their man of the match as he bagged his first hat trick of the season and took his league tally to 23 goals in just 19 games. Just like Roma, Lazio are out of the Coppa following a 0-1 defeat at the hands of Rino Gattuso’s Napoli.

The Biancocelesti’s record at the Stadio Olimpico is highly impressive with eight wins and two draws to date, netting mind-blowing three goals per match and conceding 0.80 goals in return.

Roma vs Lazio: Team News & Predicted Starting Lineups

Paulo Fonseca will be without Diawara (12 games, goals), Mkhitaryan (9/3), Pastore (8/0), Zaniolo (18/4) and Chelsea loanee Zappacosta (1/0).

Roma (4-2-3-1): Lopez – Kolarov, Spinazzola, Smalling, Mancini – Veretout, Cristante – Kluivert, Under, Pellegrini - Dzeko.

Adam Marusic (6/1) and Cataldi (10/0) are ruled out for this one.

Lazio (3-5-2): Strakosha – Felipe, Acerbi, Radu – Lulic, Lazzari, Leiva, Milinkovic-Savic, Luis Alberto – Correa, Immobile.

Roma vs Lazio: Prediction

Derby games are always difficult to predict, but I have to give an edge to the Biancocelesti in DNB market. They have won 11 straight Serie A matches and I’m positive they will win the midfield battle against shorthanded Roma.

With a 1-2 scoreline hunch, I will take Over 2.5 goals as well as I expect Roma to fight back. Even though most of their central midfielders are out, they still have healthy Edin Dzeko up-front and tricky players on the wings.
