Lyon were celebrating their qualification for the last 16 of the Champions League after a 2-2 draw with RB Leipzig when things turned sour in France.
Memphis Depay saw a fan from the 'Bad Gones' ultra group holding a banner criticising his teammate Marcelo and immediately tried to remove it from him.
Rudi Garcia named Depay captain last month, praising his leadership abilities, and the forward ran towards the fan and clashed with ultras and security guards on the turf of Parc OL.
The racially fuelled criticism of Marcelo has been building for some time, with the Brazilian being accused of a lack of professionalism.
Depay had earlier been on the scoresheet, helping cancel out RB Leipzig's two first half penalties to equalise and qualify from their group alongside their opponents as Zenit St. Petersburg were beaten by Benfica.
