What's left to be decided in Euro 2020 qualification?

marca.com, 14 November 2019, 20:02

Ukraine, Spain, Poland, Belgium, Russia, Turkey, France and Italy have already qualified for Euro 2020 and another 12 slots are at stake in traditional qualification, while four teams will get their tickets through the Nations League playoffs.

With two games to go in the Euro 2020 qualifiers several teams still compete for a chance to participate in next year's tournament.

GROUP A

England could secure qualification with a draw against Montenegro, who have yet to win a game, and they can even afford a defeat as long as the Czech Republic don't draw with Kosovo.

In this scenario, everything will be decided in the last game of the group stage with Kosovo hosting the Three Lions and the Czechs travelling to Bulgaria, who haven't won a single match.

GROUP B

Ukraine have already qualified for Euro 2020, but Portugal are competing against Serbia for second spot.

The reigning European champions will be hosted by Lithuania, who are the group's weakest team, while Serbia play at home against Luxembourg.

In the last game of the qualifiers, Portugal visit Luxembourg, while Serbia, who are currently one point behind Fernando Santos' team, host an indifferent Ukraine.

GROUP C

Northern Ireland will have to beat both the Netherlands and Germany, with results better than their earlier defeats against the pair to qualify to the next round.

It's not an easy of a task for the British team, who are three points behind the Dutch and the Germans, and will play both of the games away from home.

GROUP D

Ireland lead the most even group of the qualifiers and they face second-placed Denmark in the last game.

In their penultimate game, the Danish host Gibraltar, who also play against Switzerland.

The Swiss have the easiest schedule as they face second-bottom Georgia and everything points to the qualification spots to be decided in the game between Ireland and Denmark.

GROUP E

Four teams are competing for two spots in the most exciting group of the qualifying round.

Croatia and Hungary have only one game left and that is what Slovakia and Wales want to take advantage of.

Hence, the games between the Croatians and Slovaks is fundamental, as the World Cup runners-up can seal qualification as long as they didn't lose at home.

GROUP F

Spain have already booked their ticket to Euro 2020, while Sweden and Romania vy for a spot, with Norway having a slight chance.

Romania are one point behind Sweden and they host their rivals, before travelling to Madrid to face Spain.

GROUP G

Poland have already secured qualification and Austria only need a draw to follow the group leaders to Euro 2020.

North Macedonia, Slovenia and Israel have no choice but to win and hope for an Austria defeat against Latvia, who are bottom of the group.

GROUP H

Turkey clinched qualification after drawing with Iceland, while France also secured a ticket to the upcoming competition, as they are four points ahead of the Icelanders.

GROUP I

Belgium and Russia have already qualified and the only thing that is at stake is the top spot of the group, which is important for the seeding they will get in the Euro 2020 draw.

The Belgians are three points ahead of the Russians and beat them 3-1 on home soil.

GROUP J

Italy have qualified for next year's competition, while Finland are one step away from securing qualification, as they are five points clear off Armenia and Bosnia, and they face Liechtenstein, who are bottom of the group.
